How to Monoski?
(2)

Monoski is NOT more difficult than the impression of its externals. To tell the truth, it is very easy. Therefore, I thought making this page was tedious, and this page was left for a long time. However, there are some voices of wanting to know "How to monoski". The Japanese like to be given instructions and to follow it. They are afraid if there is no textbook or if they don't know its practice method. "How to monoski" is so too. I reluctantly write this page in compliance with such a request for the Japanese stray sheep. Therefore, it is considerably an omission.
Oh my, though such I am a Japanese...

This page is composed of the following item.

  1. Put on
  2. Walk
  3. Climb
  4. Get on the lift
  5. Go straight
  6. Traverse
  7. Turn with small radius
  8. Turn with big radius
  9. Go Bumps
  10. Go Powder
  11. Go Crust
  12. Jump

1. Put on

Put on your monoski the uphill foot first. When you take off your monoski, take off the downhill foot first.
This is very important. It is not possible to stand on the slope when you make a mistake in this order. The reason is... omitted. You understand if you do reversely in the locale.
It is ok you do either foot first at a flat place.

2. Walk

You put on a monoski at all, so you have to move.
If you are a flat place or short distance moving, you push the snow ground with poles with keeping both feet on your monoski. When the up hill, or moving long distance, you had better take off one foot from your monoski, and walk like snowboarders or skateboarders. In this case, you have to take off the downhill foot. This is very important. The reason is omitted. If the entrance of lift is slant slope, you have to think well which foot should be taken off.

3. Climb

When you climb a steep slope, you should take off one foot from your monoski. In this case, you have to take off the downhill foot too. This is very important. The reason is omitted. And you climb by side step walking same as two skis. The foot on a monoski is uphill foot, downhill foot is only with a boot.

4. Get on the lift

When you get on the lift, you keep both feet put on your monoski.
You may walk to the lift gate with one foot. But when they were two more people to your turn, you should put both feet on your monoski. Then, you complete both legs as it is, and you have only to sit down properly. When you get off the lift, you only go straight.
If one foot, you will be in trouble to get off the lift.

5. Go straight

It is the same as normal skiing. Bend your ankles and knees moderately and go straight.

6. Traverse

It is the same as normal skiing. Ride on the uphill edge.
In the case of pin tail type monoski, "Tail slide down" occurs frequently, but it is a little easy in parabolic type monos because it is hard to slide down. A difficult point, the difference from normal skis is the direction of waist. It is better the direction of waist is a little swerve to downhill from ski tip. But monoskier's waist rotates with monoski. So the waist always turns toward the ski tip. Therefore "Tail slide down" occurs frequently. The way of "No slide traversing" is to keep downhill foot lift or to keep downhill waist lift.

7. Turn with small radius

Turn by your own technique, it is allowed to using psychokinesis or even ESP. It is also good changing the direction by the jump and the tail jump. If technical terms are used just a little, both "Stretching method" and "Bending method" are useful for monoski. This is same as normal ski. The weight is also
